A.A.Murakami

A.A.Murakami is an artist duo established in 2019 by Alexander Groves (b. 1983) and Azusa Murakami (b. 1984), operating between London and Tokyo. Their collaborative practice merges technology with transient materials such as fog, plasma, and bubbles to craft innovative sensory installations, a concept they term “Ephemeral Tech.” Drawing inspiration from ancient structures and natural phenomena, their work delves into the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Groves and Murakami both hold Master’s degrees in Product Design from the Royal College of Art in London. Murakami’s background in architecture, trained at the Bartlett School of Architecture, and Groves’s undergraduate studies in fine art at Oxford University, contribute to their interdisciplinary approach. Prior to forming A.A.Murakami, they co-founded Studio Swine, a collective known for exploring themes of regional identity and sustainable materials.

Their installations have been showcased internationally, with works featured in the permanent collections of esteemed institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and M+ in Hong Kong. Notable projects include “Infinity Blue” (2018), a monumental breathing sculpture paying homage to vital oceanic organisms, and “New Spring” (2017), an interactive installation that received critical acclaim for its multisensory engagement.

A.A.Murakami’s films have garnered recognition at prestigious events, including awards at Cannes. Their work continues to push the boundaries of art and technology, creating immersive environments that invite audiences to experience the ephemeral beauty of natural phenomena through a contemporary lens.
