Ayman Yossri Daydban
Ayman Yossri Daydban (b. 1966, Palestine/Saudi Arabia) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Jeddah whose work explores the psychological and cultural dimensions of identity and belonging. Working across painting, photography, video, and printmaking, Daydban’s practice reflects on the tension between East and West, often revealing the nuances and frictions of living between cultures.
His works frequently incorporate text superimposed on found or manipulated imagery, creating visual commentaries on alienation, translation, and cultural dissonance. Whether through subtle linguistic shifts or the pairing of everyday objects with symbols of popular culture, Daydban evokes themes of fractured identity, exile, and the instability of meaning in an increasingly globalized world.
Daydban’s work is deeply personal yet broadly resonant, drawing from his own experience as a Palestinian-Saudi navigating questions of national, linguistic, and cultural belonging. His artistic language is direct but layered—rooted in concept and charged with emotion. Through repetition, erasure, and juxtaposition, he asks: what does it mean to be “from” somewhere? And who gets to decide?
He has participated in major exhibitions across the region and internationally. In 2024, his solo exhibition The Line at Athr Gallery in AlUla explored spatial and symbolic boundaries, while his work was featured in In the Presence of Absence, part of Desert X AlUla 2024, and in Feeling the Stones at the Diriyah Biennale (2021) in Riyadh.
Daydban’s works are included in notable public and private collections, including the British Museum in London and the Greenbox Museum in Amsterdam. He is widely recognized for shaping the discourse around contemporary Arab identity through a practice that bridges conceptual rigor with visual impact.
Ayman Yossri Daydban continues to create poignant reflections on the personal and political conditions of belonging—offering artworks that are both intimate in tone and universal in relevance.
