Zaman Jassim
Zaman Jassim (b. 1971, Saudi Arabia) is a leading figure in contemporary Saudi art, recognized for his ability to fuse poetic abstraction with themes drawn from cultural memory, language, and identity. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, and mixed media, often incorporating Arabic calligraphy and layered symbolism to evoke emotional depth and spiritual reflection.
Based in Saudi Arabia, Jassim began his artistic journey in the 1990s and has since developed a distinct visual language that draws on both traditional forms and contemporary modes of expression. His works are grounded in the exploration of heritage, the metaphysical, and the fleeting nature of time, often reflecting on personal and collective memory. Through his compositions, he navigates complex ideas of belonging, presence, and transformation.
Jassim’s installations and paintings are marked by an interplay between structure and spontaneity, using light, script, texture, and material contrast to create meditative experiences. Many of his works reflect an inner dialogue—between past and present, silence and sound, permanence and disappearance.
His work has been featured in significant exhibitions across the Kingdom and internationally. Notable recent presentations include Perspectives Across Saudi Arabia at Misk Art Institute (2024), In the Presence of Absence at Desert X AlUla (2024), and Feeling the Stones at the Diriyah Biennale (2021). His contributions have helped shape the trajectory of Saudi contemporary art, inspiring a new generation of artists to engage with cultural roots through conceptual practice.
Zaman Jassim’s work is included in institutional and private collections across the Gulf region and beyond. As both artist and thinker, he continues to expand his practice through experimental forms that blur the boundaries between the material and the spiritual.
