The Gate of Light
In The Gate of Light (2023), Romanian artist Ana Maria Negară continues her conceptual exploration of time, presence, and transcendence through sculptural form. The work takes inspiration from the Quranic metaphor of divine guidance, portraying a symbolic gateway through which each human being encounters light—understood as knowledge, clarity, and spiritual awakening.
Blending spiritual symbolism with futuristic visual language, Negară draws from diverse sources—science fiction, avant-garde design, architecture, and film—to craft a sculptural presence that feels simultaneously ancient and forward-looking. Her signature interdisciplinary approach allows the work to function as both monument and portal, bridging nature, technology, and philosophy.
As a conceptual continuation of her 2021 sculpture Not just eternity, but infinity, The Gate of Light forms part of a larger sculptural inquiry into the human search for meaning and direction in an ever-evolving world. Installed at King Abdulaziz Historical Center (KAHC), the work becomes both a physical threshold and a metaphorical passage—inviting reflection on where we are headed and what illuminates the way.
